A different childhood: Mom’s cooking is better anyway

30.05.2017

Arevik Perkelyan has to grow up her three children in an apartment, which is devoid of the most common utilities. She also has a sick mother under her care. In order to solve the problem of daily bread, Arevik is ready to do any work despite the place and time and she often has to leave her children without parental care.

“I was already thinking of sending my children to a boarding school because we live in terrible conditions. I am always looking for a way out,” says the desperate mother.

Arevik eventually found an alternative solution: she took her children to the Social Day Care Centre for Children in Yerevan’s Ajapnyak community. Her two daughters do not attend the centre any longer as their problem has been solved. Only 11-year-old Hovhannes continues to attend the centre where he is loved by everyone.
